Arquero captures Marikina chess title

MANILA---Kevin Arquero of Pasay City won the overall title in the Chess for Christ Rapid Chess Tournament held last Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Pan de Amerikana Bakery & Restaurant in Marikina City.
Arquero, one of the top players of Philippine Army chess team collected a total of 6.0 points, after beating former solo leader Christian Mark Daluz of Bulan, Sorsogon in the seventh and final round.
Daluz also had the same points but had to settle for the second place since Arquero had the superior tie-break score.
For his feat, Arquero pocketed the top purse worth P2,000 courtesy of Tournament Director Pastor and United States chess master Ruben Gumagay Ondangan Jr. and organizing Amity Chess Club, Family in Christ Lancaster,California and JTGC Churches.
Top seed Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. of Quezon City wound up at third with 5.5 points after halving the point with International Master Angelo Young of Manila in the final canto.
Rounding up the top 10 were Julius Gonzales, IM Angelo Young, Narciso Gumila, CM Genghis Imperial, NM Romeo Alcodia and NM Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. with April Joy Ramos (lady), Antonella Berthe Racasa ( lady), Ruel Sto. Domingo (marikina), Joey Villar (media), John Marcus lomio (high school) and Gabriel Cayanan (senior) as category winners.
Chief Arbiter was Pastor and National Arbiter Ranier B. Pascual assisted by NA Robert Racasa and NA Rusfranco Salcedo.-Marlon Bernardino-
