MANILA---International Master Daniel Quizon won the 2nd Kamatyas Fide Rated Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament last Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the MultiSys Headquarters Multinational Village in Paranaque City.

The Dasmariñas City bet Quizon split the point with International Master Barlo Nadera to score 7.5 points in 9 outings and create a three-way tie for first place with Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, who drew with Chester Neil Reyes and Fide Master Randy Segarra, who brought down International Master Ronald Dableo.

Quizon took the title via superior tie break points against runner-up place Laylo and third placer Segarra.

“I didn’t look to defend my title, just to play my best,” said Quizon, a member of the famous Dasmariñas Chess Academy under the guidance of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and National Coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas.

“I knew that this was a tough tournament with all the players. I just tried to play my best and now I am really happy,” added Quizon who is part of the National Team bound for 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Hanoi, Vietnam next month.

Sharing fourth to seventh places were Reyes, Nadera, Jerry Areque and Fide Master Robert Suelo Jr. who got 7.0 points each.
Rounding up the top 10 finishers with 6.5 points each were Narquingel "Archie" Reyes, International Master Chito Garma and Fide Master Narquingden "Arden" Reyes.

Category winners were Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., (top senior), International Master Angelo Young (top PWD), Woman International Master Kylen Joy Mordido (top lady), National Master Mark Jay Bacojo (top junior), National Master Al-Basher Buto (top kiddies), National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., Joey Villar and Reymundo Gregorio Nillama (top media).
Backed up by Founder and CEO of software engineering solutions provider Multisys Technologies Corp. David Almirol Jr., the 2nd edition Kamatyas Fide Rated Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament was organized by Kamatyas Chess Club headed by International Master Roderick Nava and was sanctioned by National Chess Federation of the Philippines and supervised by the Philippine Arbiters Chess Confederation (PACC).

Earlier, Almirol, Nava and Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre made the ceremonial moves kicking off the one-day tournament also graced by Tournament Director National Arbiter Byron Gabrentina Villar and Chief Arbiter International Arbiter Reden Cruz.
The event aimed to develop good thinkers through the understanding of chess strategies and tactics, improving the logical abilities and rational thinking and reasoning of the participants, and instilling a sense of self-confidence, self-worth and camaraderie.-Marlon Bernardino-
