FARENAS WON VIA A FREAK ACCIDENT

PhilBoxing.com

Las Vegas, NV -- Michael Farenas came last Saturday to the Mandalay Bay Casino Resort for the second time to showcase his wares. The first time he was there to do so was in October of last year. He beat Arturo Valenzuela of Tijuana Mexico via a short 2 round TKO on that outing.

Farenas? sensational KD of Valenzuela impressed the people that matters in the fight scene in Las Vegas. Thus, Farenas did not have a hard time securing his second fight. Thanks in no small measure to world bantamweight champ Gerry Penalosa who used his connections to help secure the fight.

Last Saturday, fighting on the undercard of the Pacquiao-Marquez blockbuster, Farenas faced a veteran from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. His name is Baudel Cardenas.

The Farenas-Cardenas bout was getting along as expected, with the two warriors exchanging hard shots on the middle of the ring.

However, in the heat of the fight, some of Farenas? shots were straying south of the border. Referee Tony Weeks issued the appropriate warnings and deduction of points.

With a few seconds left on the second round, a big Farenas shot hit Cardenas really low and the force of the blow hurt Cardenas and drove him to the canvas. He rolled over twice in pain and in spite receiving assistance and being allowed to take the mandatory rest period following such accidents, he was not able to get up and continue the fight.

With Cardenas unable to recover and fight again, the referee declared a second round TKO for Farenas.

It was an unfortunate accident and an ugly victory for Farenas, something the predominantly Latino crowd did not agree with and they booed Farenas loudly as he walked back to his dressing room.

The Farenas Team did not wished for the fight to end the way it did, but a win is a win and they will take it.

Baudel Cardenas, of Mexico, is down on the canvas hand on his crotch after being hit with a vicious low blow by Michael Farenas of the Philippines as Referee Tony Weeks looks on in this bit of action from last Saturday's fight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
