UAE Chess Champion to compete in Balinas Cup

Reigning Dubai, United Arab Emirates chess champion Dandel Fernandez of the Philippines will be competing in the GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Online Chess Tournament dubbed as 3 Years old Birthday Celebration of Baby Uno from November 22 to 23 at lichess.org.
The 2-day event, 3 division online chess tournament is organized by Bayanihan Chess Club, sponsored by US based Dr. Joe Balinas, Engr. Antonio "Uncle Paps" Balinas, Mr. Recca Carcueva of Philippine E-9 Chess Club and Mr. Wagish Kumar Rai of Frontier Wheels.
Fernandez, former top player of National SCUAA NCR squad under the watchful eye of Olympian NM Mauro Yasay, is also top player of Maynilad chess team.
"I hope to do well in this upcoming GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Online Chess Tournament," said Fernandez, who got already his Arena Grandmaster (AGM) title as well the Fide Instructor (FI) title, National Instructor (NI) title and a norm in Fide Arbiter (FA).
Fernandez who honed his chess skills at the famous Novelty Chess Club of sportsman Sonsea Aogonoy, will be pitted against some of the country's best woodpushers that includes 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, International Master Chito Garma, Fide Masters Roel Abelgas and Jony Habla, National Masters Gerry Cabellon, Noel dela Cruz and Alfred Acaling III.-Marlon Bernardino-
