FIVE-ROUND BEAT DOWN: SENSATIONAL ROBINSON STOPS VARGAS IN ‘EWBSS MIDDLEWEIGHT LEGENDS’ OPENER PhilBoxing.com Tue, 31 Mar 2020 A one-punch KO of Fernando Vargas in the fifth advances Sugar Ray Robinson to face the winner of Marvin Hagler & Kelly Pavlik in the quest for the eAli Trophy. Sugar Ray Robinson oozed intimidating presence over five rounds against Fernando Vargas in the first quarter-final of the ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends Tournament’ simulated on EA Sports ‘Fight Night Champion’ and broadcast via World Boxing Super Series Facebook. Robinson stunned Vargas with a huge right hand just after the opening bell, but ‘El Feroz’ survived it and started trading blows with one of the greatest of the sport. By the end of the round, Vargas got crushed by a big right hand and suffered a cut that caused a web of blood across his face the following rounds. In the second Vargas showed what a warrior he is by ferociously fighting back, but Robinson seized control, carried on with crisp combinations and in the fifth he threw a lethal right to end fight as Vargas was unable to beat the count. The judges had it 40-36 in favour of Sugar Ray at the time of the stoppage. In Friday’s semi-final, the legendary all-time pound-for-pound icon will face the winner of tomorrow’s quarter-final between Marvin Hagler and Kelly Pavlik.
