Filipino Pugs Massacred Like ducks in Thailand
By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Feb 2008
When will the bloodbath and hemorrhage end?
Brian Makilig, Richard Garcia, Jaime Barcelona, Pingping Tepura, Van Bantilan. What do these ring gladiators have in common?
Like slaves in ancient Vespasian?s and Titus? Colosseum in Rome, they were the recent batch of underrated Filipino professional boxers sent to be devoured by beasts and ended up massacred by their Thai rivals for a small penny.
While the Christian world was celebrating Valentine?s Day last February 14, Makilig and Garcia were being swallowed whole by their extremely superior foes before a partisan crowd at the Patavikorn Market in Bangkok.
Lightflyweight Makilig was outclassed by WBC No. 18 ranked and ABCO lightflyweight champion Kompayak Porpramook (29 wins, 20 KOs, 3 losses) while Garcia (14 wins, 3 KO?s, 10 losses) was stopped in the fifth round by WBC No. 4 strawweight Pornsawan Porpramook in the card promoted by Pramook Rochanaphan of Porpramook Boxing Promotion.
The following day at Minburi Market in Bangkok, Tepura (13 wins, 5 KO?s, 11 losses) was halted in two rounds by the aging but former world champion and WBA No. 11 ranked Ratanapol Sor Vorapin (56 wins, 42 KO?s, 6 losses)
Damrong Simakajornboon reported in fightnews that ?the Thai fighter viciously hunted down the Filipino and floored his challenger twice more, with a right hook at the head and the last time with vicious left body shot, scoring a TKO at 1:31 of round two.?
In the undercard, Barcelona (30 wins, 6 KO?s, 37 losses), the most veteran among the Filipino campaigners, vowed on points in six rounds to Sirichai Ekchumpol (6-0, 3 KOs) in the event promoted by Kokiet Group Promotion.
Then came the bloody defeat of the once-promising Van ?Holyfield? Bantilan who impaired to 7 wins, 2 losses (all by KO) after absorbing a cruel two-round TKO loss to world-ranked Fahsai Sakkreerin for the IBF Pan Pacific featherweight championship at the Holland Restaurant in Bangkok last February 15 afternoon.
