Former boxing rivals Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales have a reunion Tuesday morning (Wednesday in Manila) in Los Angeles when the later visited the Filipino eight division world champion for an interview. Morales is now the chief boxing analysts of FOX Deportes, the Latino arm of Fox Sports who is handling the Pacquiao vs Thurman Pay per View broadcast on July 22.
Pacquiao and Morales fought three times in 2005 and 2006 where Morales won the first fight by decision and Pacquiao avenged the loss with two knockout wins afterwards.
Morales, going 43 this September, retired in 2012 with a record of 52-9-0 (36 KOs). Pacquiao, 40, is still very much active and still fight on the highest level of the sport.
"El Terrible" Morales has also been remembered for his classic trilogy with fellow Mexican great and Hall of Famer Marco Antonio Barrera between 2000 and 2004. The first and third fights were selected as ?Fight of the Year? by The Ring Magazine.
Morales was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2018. In 2011, Morales became the first Mexican-born fighter to win world titles in four separate weight classes during his career.
He won his first title in 1996 when he knocked out IBHOF member Daniel Zaragoza to become the WBC Super Bantamweight champion. He went on to defeat numerous world champions such as Junior Jones, Wayne McCullough, Kevin Kelley, Paulie Ayala, Guty Espadas, Barrera and of course, Pacquiao.
Morales currently lives in his native Tijuana where he serves as a Mexican congressman from the state of Baja California.
