IDOL 4: JERUSALEM BEATS LANDERO IN MINGLANILLA By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 11 Nov 2018 MINGLANILLA, CEBU ? Melvin Jerusalem came out on top in a fight between two former world title challengers when he outclassed Toto Landero in the main event of the IDOL 4 fight card held at the Minglanilla Sports Complex. Both boxers were hesitant to open up in the early rounds, it was in the 4th when they exchanged heavy hooks. But the main factor in the fight was Jerusalem?s mobility. It enabled him to find angles to land and move out of harm?s way immediately. Landero remained dangerous, and he tried to target Jerusalem?s body to slow him down and landed hard shots when he got in close. But as the rounds progressed, Jerusalem piled up the points and his punches landed with increasing frequency. Landero was outfoxed and outpunched in the closing rounds. Jerusalem was the runaway winner on the three judges? cards ? Arnel Pasion -98-92, Noel Flores 97-93 and Neil Papas ? 98-92. Jerusalem is now 14-2,8KO?s. He lost in his bid to dethrone WBC minimumweight champion Chayaphon Moonsri of Thailand last year. Landero drops to 10-4-2,2KO?s. He was beaten twice this year in challenging WBA world minimumweight champ Thamanoon Niyomtrong of Thailand and IBO world titleholder Simphiwe Khonco of South Africa. Esneth Domingo remained unbeaten in his 11th bout, scoring a lopsided unanimous decision win over Reymark Taday. Domingo landed at will and the fight had a bloody ending when a deep gash opened up in Taday?s scalp in the tenth which spurted blood until the final bell. The scores ? Arnel Pasion ? 97-93,Noel Flores 97-92 and Neil Papas 99-91. BACOLOD SURVIVES FUROG In what would be the best fight of the night, Christian Bacolod was forced to dig in deep to win by split decision over Christoval Furog. Bacolod had his way in the opening round but was knocked down after being tagged in the jaw in the second while exchanging punches near ring center. Bacolod got up but Furog pounced on the opportunity and pinned Bacolod in the neutral corner, and knocked him down for the second time with a furious flurry. Bacolod somehow got up and survived the round by going on the backfoor. In the third, he was in a deeper hole as a cut opened on Bacolod?s right eyelid. Referee Teddy Alivio ruled that the cut came from a legal punch. The fight was allowed to continue and Bacolod woke up and knocked down Furog. Bacolod could not finish him off and in the subsequent rounds, the punch output dropped with both boxers trying to regain their bearings. In the last two rounds, they traded well placed punches, Bacolod came up with a good final round, which he won on all three cards, that saved him the fight. The scorecards ? Arnel Pasion ? 75-74 for Bacolod, Neil Papas 77-72 for Furog, Noel Flores ? 77-72 for Bacolod. Bacolod is now 10-0,7KO?s. Furog suffered his first loss at 5-1,2KO?s. For the rest of the card- Joyjoy Formentera beat Crison Omayao by TKO at the start of the fifth round, Danny Villafuerte stopped Mark Jun Bato in three rounds and Jemuel Azucenas got a unanimous verdict over Kervent Aresco. The ALA Promotions card was the fourth offering of their IDOL series. The fights were supervised by Arlene Olondriz and Glenn Agena of GAB-Cebu. Photo ?
