NOYNAY AND GARCIA MAKE WEIGHT FOR WBO ASIA PACIFIC YOUTH TITLE BOUT By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 06 Apr 2018 BOGO CITY, CEBU -- Joe Noynay is set to show his skills in front of his hometown fans when he battles Mexican Hector Garcia this Saturday at the Don Celestino Martinez, Snr Sports and Cultural Center. Noynay (13W-2L-1D,4KOs) will make the first defense of his WBO Youth Asia Pacific junior lightweight title that he won in Zhongshan, China against the previously undefeated Pan Jinxiang. His win also gave him the vacant WBC ABCO silver super featherweight title. Both Noynay and Garcia weighed in at the division limit of 130 lbs during the official weigh-in held Friday at the fight venue. Noynay traces his roots to Bogo and requested for a homecoming fight after winning the title. Noynay's victory against Pan was a tense tactical struggle. He dropped the Chinese boxer, who was also WBO China junior lightweight titleholder, in the second and third rounds but Pan kept coming back. In the sixth, an accidental head butt opened a long gash above Noynay's right eyebrow. The action continued but in the eighth round, the cut got deeper with blood continuing to go into the Filipino's eye forcing the stoppage. The three judges had Noynay ahead 76-74 twice and 78-72; That win not only gave Noynay a world ranking but a citation in last month's Cebu Sports Swards. Garcia (12-6-2,7KOs) is from Tijuana, Baja California. His boxrec record shows he has not fought for any title in Mexico and has a 3W-2L, 2KO record in his five fights for 2017. Garcia's best opponent would be Juan Carlos Burgos, who had a draw in 2013 in his world title shot against Roman Martinez, who was then the WBO world junior lightweight champ. Burgos beat Garcia by unanimous decision last August. But Garcia bounced back with a unanimous win against Carlos Octavio Guardado. There will be seven bouts in the undercard Cris Alfante vs Ryan Tampus (8 rounds), Al Toyogon vs Jason Tinampay (8 rounds), Cris Paulino vs Marvin Tampus (6rounds), Richard Sueno vs Jeco Suico (6 rounds), Ronel Sumalpong vs Justin Darap (6 rounds), Alvin Madura vs Robert Bayo (6 rounds) and female boxer Jean De Paz vs Machieka Pareno (4 rounds). Left is Hector Garcia (Mexico) and defending WBO Youth Asia Pacific junior lightweight champ Joe Noynay of Bogo, Cebu. The WBO regional bout will be supervised by WBO VP for Asia Pacific Leon Panoncillo. The weigh-in was supervised by GAB Region VII officials Rolando Mendoza and Glen Agena. This card is promoted by Gabriel Bebot Elorde with the support of the local government officials of Bogo, Cebu. Bogo is also the hometown of one of Philippine boxing's immortal greats, Gabriel Flash Elorde. Noynay wants to follow in the footsteps of the Flash, and Saturday night will be another big step.
