China's number one boxing promoter has entered the super8 sweepstakes with rising star Ya Jie Ding. Liu Gang has one of the strongest stables in Asian boxing and is the kingpin when it comes to Chinese boxing. On his books he has Xu Can who is closing in on a world title and Xiaojun Qui who has twice challenged for a World title as well as undefeated former World youth champion and current WBC and WBA regional title holder Baishanbo Nasiyiwula. More importantly he understands what it takes to travel his fighters overseas and win. "You need to choose the right fighter to travel," Liu Gang said. "I have no doubt Ya Jie Ding is the right man for the job. "We're coming to win the super8. "Ya is a very good young fighter, I have a high always had a high opinion of him. "A perfect example of how talented I've always believed him to be - we matched him with Baishanbo in just his second career fight - Baishanbo at that time was 6-0 and World Youth champion. "Ya went five rounds with Baishanbo - anyone who can do that in just their second bout is a very good fighter. "Baishanbo is now 12-0 and WBC Asian Continental champion and WBA International champion. "Ya Jie Ding is a great fighter and he will be suited by this Super8 tournament. "He's a great mover, a very good defensive fighter and he continues to improve." Liu Gang just doesn't talk the talk, he's got a proven track record. "This is huge, it's China vs Australia, it's one of Liu's brightest prospects vs some of Australia's rising stars, established stars and former stars," TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 18 promoter Brendon Smith said. "Liu Gang is China's number one promoter and has one of the strongest stables in World boxing. "More importantly he understands International boxing and has a very intimate knowledge of Australian boxers. "He knows what kind of fighters he needs to bring here to be victorious. "This is a huge coup for the super8. "Also Liu has a formidable record when it comes to his boxers taking on ours. "So far we've had four matches, two in China and two in Toowoomba and the Chinese have won three of them. "Xu Chan handed Commonwealth Champion Kris George his only loss and both boys have gone to earn World ratings. "Xu Chan holds a win over Josh Baillie in China as well as Bai Shan Bo earning a victory over Steven Spark, both in China. "Our only victory was Will Young when he defeated Xinghua Wang and Will described it as the toughest fight of his career. "Any man Liu Gang selects to travel over for the super8 you have to respect," Smith said. The 8 confirmed competitors are Jack Asis - former IBO World Champion. Jamie Hilt - Queensland Welterweight champion Darkon Dryden - 3 fights 3 wins all by KO and within two rounds Mick Shaw - Former Australian Champion Ya Jie Ding - Chinese rising star Luke Woods - Commonwelth Games amateur, 3-0 as a pro Robert Toomey - Former IBO Oceania Champion Jason Kanofski - Former Queensland Champion "Last time we came to Toowoomba it was the catalyst to Xu Can's career taking off, now he has a very high World rating and he is now knocking on the door for a World title shot," Liu Gang said. "I'm hopeful Ya Jie Ding can follow a similar path. "I think it's very important to travel with my best and brightest stars. "Victories overseas against the likes of former World champions, Regional champions, Australian champions, State champions helps lift my fighters higher in the ratings. "That's what we're coming for, I love Toowoomba and its hospitality but we want to keep our formidable record in tact. "Brendon Smith is a great promoter and a pleasure to work with - my promotional company - Max Power Promotions and TGW & Smithy's Promotions have a great relationship which will continue for years to come. "However all that aside when we come to Toowoomba we are coming to win. "We want to fly back to China with the Super8 title, Liu Gang said. |
