Cella Stops Hodson, Wins WBB Junior Middleweight Title PhilBoxing.com Wed, 13 Sep 2017 Last Saturday, Brockport, PA's Chris Cella lived out a dream when he went to war for the WBB Junior Middleweight Title and came out victoriously, bringing the belt back home. The stage was set at Black Sheep Harley Davidson in Huntington, West Virginia. Cella was the fourth fight of the night, and under tutelage of his coach and best friend Heavyweight Champiok Bobby Gunn, Cella walked down the tunnel confident and prepared for battle. "This was the first fight of mine where I had so many people come out to watch me work and support me," said Cella. "About 20 of my best friends from BC Boxing made the 6 hour drive down and it meant the world to me. We are more than a gym, we are a family." Cella also had added incentive to win the belt The as he dedicated the bout to his good friend Shea McKinney, whom he promised he would win the title. Cella faced a gamed opponent in Shawn Hodson but early on established his jab and took control of the fight. Cutting off the ring and finding his range, he picked Hodson apart the first round. The second round both boxers came out throwing big punches, with Cella getting the better of the exchanges, backing Hodson against the ropes and working his patented body attack. Hodson searched hard for an answer to Cella's unrelenting attack but came up empty, and Hall-of-Fame referee Bill Clancy called a halt to the bout with seconds remaining in the second round. "This was the sweetest of all my wins, because when I first laced up the gloves and competed at the age of 18, I dreamt of one day winning a big title. Training camp was brutal, but well worth it. I've been in this game for 17 years, and after thinking about it long and hard and talking it over with my supportive wife Becky, I have decided to hang up the gloves and walk away from fighting anymore." Cella is excited to continue to work with local talent and pass along his passion for the sweet science. |
