TABUGON AND SONSONA VS. MOLONEY TWINS IN VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

PhilBoxing.com

Raymond Tabugon and Lolito Sonsona, both of the Sanman Boxing Club of General Santos City, will challenge the Australian twin brothers Andrew and Jason Moloney for their respective WBA Oceania titles on August 19 at the Function Centre of Melbourne Park in Victoria, Australia. Tabugon will challenge the undefeated Andrew Moloney for his WBA Oceania super flyweight belt. Sonsona will face Jason Moloney at stake is the WBA Oceania super bantamweight title.

Tabugon (20-7-1, 10 KO) was formerly International Boxing Organization (IBO) Inter-Continental light flyweight champion. He won his last fight by stopping Jetly Purisima in the 7th round last May 12 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City.

While Sonsona (21-1-4, 9 KO) won the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) International superflyweight crown by a victory over Renren Tesorio via unanimous decision in his last fight held in February 26 at the Lagao Gym in Gensan.

Andrew Moloney (13-0-0, 8 KO) had successfully retained his crown in his third title defense against Mexican Aramis Solis via a 3rd round knockout on June 3 at the Function Centre. Jason Moloney (13-0-0, 11 KO) similarly maintained his unbeaten streak in his 4th title defense by TKO in the 5th round over Emanuel Armendariz of Mexico last June 3.

The dream fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux could become a reality towards the end of this year, Bob Arum told boxingscene.com. Lomachenko is slated to return to action either on December 9 or 23 and the location of that fight could depend on whether he faces Rigondeaux or junior lightweight contender Orlando Salido, the only boxer who defeated him.

Arum told the Los Angeles Times that a fight between Lomachenko and Rigondeaux could take place in New York City. If a fight would be agreed between Lomachenko and Salido, then that match would be in the Los Angeles area. "I spoke to Roc Nation recently about Lomachenko fighting Rigondeaux," said Arum. "Rigondeaux has agreed to move up from 122 pounds to face Lomachenko at 130 pounds."

There's not much attention from the world of boxing media on the Miguel Cotto-Yoshihiro Kamegai fight for the vacant WBO junior middleweight belt on August 26 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Unfortunately, Floyd Mayweather Jr. chose the same date to face UFC champion Conor McGregor in their mega-fight on Showtime PPV.

* * *

A great majority of the boxing fans will likely buy PPV for the Mayweather-McGregor fight instead of watching Cotto on free TV who will climb the ring coming from a two-year inactivity to match an unknown in Kamegai, who is ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Organization. If Cotto defeats Kamegai, there's a possibility that he will face former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux late this year on HBO pay-per-view.
