Bobby Gunn Extends KO Streak And Captures Heavyweight Title PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Jul 2017 Bobby Gunn. Last Saturday night in Huntington, West Virginia, former IBA World Cruiserweight Champion Bobby Gunn knocked out Gilberto Domingos in round 2 to capture the International CPBC Heavyweight Title. Domingos (22-7) came all the way to West Virginia from Brazil to upset Gunn and leave with the belt, but Gunn showed from the onset of the first round that he was more than prepared to add another piece of hardware to his collection. Seconds into the fight Gunn landed a soft jab to Domingos' nose that set the pace of the fight. Immediately Domingos went into defensive mode and looked to keep Gunn away with a jab of his own, but the slick former world champion slipped punches and utilized sharp angles to get inside the jab and do work to the body. A solid left hook to Domingos' mid section ended a Gunn dominated first round. Gunn jumped off his stools and resumed control entering the second round, backing Domingos up with the jab and breaking down his body. Domingos couldn't find an answer to Gunn's methodical attack, and found himself in the corner with Gunn picking him apart. Gunn landed his trademark overhand corkscrew right hand to the temple of Domingos and his corner had seen enough, throwing in the towel to avoid further punishment. Hall of Fame referee Bill Clancy later said he was seconds away from stopping the fight. With the victory Gunn has become the first pugilist to hold prestigious heavyweight titles in both gloved and Bare Knuckle Boxing since John L. Sullivan dos in 1889. "It felt great to get the W, and show the word that the Gunnslinger is back with a vengeance and ready to shake up the heavyweight division. I would like to thank my team Team Gunn, everybody behind it a very big thank you to BC Boxing and Chris Cella in Brockport, Pennsylvania, Julia Krise, Scott Burt The Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame President and Joseph Curcio, Belfast's favorite son. This fight was dedicated to my little pal Shea McKinney, she is 8 years old and she is in a battle for her life and she is overcoming the dirty disease of cancer; and to the fallen angels of the past that are gone from us. A very big dedication to Joseph Curcio's little girl Amanda Curcio, a beautiful little sixteen-year-old girl that passed away. She was a victim of bullying and we want to make sure that the world knows that Team Gunn and the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame are against bullying. Everybody out there in the world please be sure to keep an eye open for anybody that is being bullied, expose it do not let it happen. It is a disease bullying and the cure for that disease is exposing the bully. If anybody is a victim out there please reach out to Team Gunn and we will do our best to help you. You can reach Team Gunn through BC Boxing and Chris Cella. He is always there to take emails and if it is a severe case we will personally reach out to the family and we will reach out to the bully if you give us the information we will reach out to the authorities we will do everything to help God bless." It was Gunn's second straight knockout win following a loss to Roy Jones Jr. in February. |
