Jesse Chris Rosales' trainer says undefeated prospect is in best shape of his life ahead of Jhonny Gonzalez fight PhilBoxing.com Tue, 18 Jul 2017 Jesse Chris Rosales' trainer is full of confidence of his ward, saying the undefeated Cebuano prospect is in the best shape of his life less than a week going into his WBC Latino super featherweight title challenge against the fearsome Jhonny Gonzalez on July 22 in Chihuahua, Mexico. Rosales, who is only 25 years old, is 21-0-1 with nine KOs, while Gonzalez, a two-division world champion, is 63-10 with a fearsome 53 knockout record. "This is the first time that he is this good condition wise because before, he was left alone to train," said his coach at the Omega boxing gym Jinggoy Junco. Junco said that for this fight, Rosales was able to enjoy a full training camp for the first time, with monitored training and diet, and with the alloted schedule of sparring rounds, things he never enjoyed before. "You can see it in the development of his body," said Junco. Rosales only had three fights in the past two years, a first-round knockout against journeyman Jilo Merlin, a decision win again unheralded Ibuki Tanaka in Thailand and a second-round demolition of Jerry Nardo. Though impressive, Junco said Rosales is even better today. "This is the new Cris Rosales, he is faster, stronger and smarter compared in his last fights," said Junco. And against Gonzalez, he needs to be all of those as Gonzalez, who is 35, is a former featherweight and bantamweight champion of the world who has won his last five fights. Gonzalez has also stopped his last three fights, including a third-round stoppage of Francisco Contreras to win the WBC Latino super featherweight title which will be on the line against Rosales. Youth will be Rosales? advantage as he is 10 years younger than the former world champion but the Danao City born fighter said in a previous interview that he won?t be complacent because Gonzalez may be older but that also means he is more experienced.
