VISAYAS-ANTILLON FIGHT CALLED OFF By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 26 Sep 2007 The executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Keith Kizer has informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that the scheduled ten round bout between Filipino Allan Visayas and undefeated WBC No.1 Urbano Antillon at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on October 4 has apparently been called off following complaints over the mismatch from the Philippines. Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today had emailed both Lee Samuels of Top Rank Promotions as well as Kizer regarding the obvious mismatch since Visayas had only recently returned to the ring after a seven year absence and was knocked out in the fourth round by ?Speedy? Gonzales in Maywood, California last April 13. Samuels said he would check with the matchmakers but Kizer informed us ?I do not think this fight is happening anymore? which was regarded as welcome news by Filipino boxing people led by WBC founding secretary general as well as well-known TV commentator Moy Lainez who had supported our efforts to get the obvious mismatch stopped. The Visayas-Antillon fight was scheduled to be the opening televised bout on the Top Rank card in which WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel defends his title against Luis Melendez of Colombia. The 33 year old Visayas has a record of 21-7 with 15 KO?s although six of his seven losses were also by knockouts while the 25 year old Antillon is undefeated with a record of 19-0 and 12 knockouts.
