Bacolod teams dominate Day-1 of PHL Tchoukball Open PhilBoxing.com Thu, 06 Apr 2017 CEBU CITY ? The Bacolod Ilahas men and women teams took early lift in the 2017 Philippine Open Tchoukball Invitational here with impressive performances at the end of the opening day late Wednesday at the City Sports Club in Ayala Business Park, Cebu City. The Ilahas men?s team registered an unblemished record of 5 wins for 15 points beating the teams of Butanding-Cebu, Bunal-Cebu, Philippine Christian School of Tomorrow (PCST) Royals-Manila and Malaysia. Meanwhile, world?s top ranked Chinese Taipei is trailing behind with 4-0 card for 12 points by turning down Bunal-Cebu, PCST Royals-Manila and Manila Crickets, also in Day-1. Manila Crickets, on the other hand, occupied the third spot with 3-2 win-loss record for 11 points as Malaysia and co-host Butanding Cebu share No.4 position with 2-2 win-loss card. Bunal-Cebu, meanwhile, is at No.6 with a win and 3 defeats followed by teams of Good Shepherd-Butuan City and PCST Royals-Manila ? which remained winless in 4 outings. Singapore, which arrived early dawn yesterday, is currently picking up their games and expected to rise into the team standing. For the women?s division, Ilahas also scored 3 wins for 9 points ? dominating the teams of Bunal-Cebu, Butanding-Cebu and Manila Crickets. Manila Crickets closely trails behind with 2-1 win-loss slate for 7 points as Butuan ended at No.3 with 1-2 followed by Butanding-Cebu (1-1) and Bunal-Cebu (0-3). Team Singapore, who is still playing at press time, is expected to catch up in the team standing. On Sports Tourism Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, who was one of the guests in yesterday?s opening ceremony, described the fact that foreign teams ? like Malaysia, Singapore and Chinese Taipei coming over for the event is something that will boost their tourism industry and sports program. ?As I?ve said, this sport is designed for Asian countries like us. I believe that we can excel and further promote it this in the grassroots level,? he added. Meanwhile, Ed Jayco, Cebu City Sports Commission Chairman, said that they are taking it seriously on bringing tchoukball in the grassroots ? particularly in the barangays. ?Since this is an inexpensive sport, we can also use this as a tool for social transformation and making the kids believe in themselves,? he added./PR |
