Arthur Villanueva: ?I?m treating this chance like it?s my last? PhilBoxing.com Wed, 01 Mar 2017 ?Opportunity knocks only once, so I?m treating this chance like it?s my last?, says current WBO Asia-Pacific Bantamweight champion ?King?Arthur Villanueva, addressing questions about his preparation for his fight against former world superfly champion Zolani ?Last Born? Tete in a WBO bantamweight eliminator on April 8. Setting everything else aside, Villanueva is focused and determined to win no matter the cost, saying he?s been training ?extra hard?, knowing Tete is a ?smart fighter?. ?I lost to the first chance I got; I?m not gonna let it happen again,? says Villanueva, recalling his first attempt at a world title last July 2015 in El Paso Texas, against McJoe Arroyo. Since then, he has won his last three fights against hard-hitting Mexican warriors, with the most recent being considered as one of last year?s best knock out wins in a rematch versus Juan Jimenez at Stubhub Center, CA. Villanueva says he knows what he is up against, commenting on the African?s punching skills, ?from the tapes I?ve watched, it?s not hard to miss that powerful left uppercut he?s got, but I?m also confident with how I?ve been preparing.? Tete has been fighting world championships since 2010, and has been a world champion himself since 2014. While admitting Tete?s advantage over his boxing experience, Villanueva also promises to give Tete a hard time dodging his attacks. However undaunted, Villanueva disclosed he respects Tete?s skills and adds, ?I?ve never underestimated any opponent I?ve faced in the past, and I?m especially not going to do it with Tete, because I know this will be a tough fight.? With a 74% knock out percentage, Zolani Tete holds an impressive record of 24 wins and 3 losses, with 20 knockouts. Some of his most notable opponents include ones over Mexican Juan Carlos ?Zurdito? Sanchez Jr and Paul ?Baby Faced Assassin? Butler from England. Villanueva, on the other hand, has 30 wins and one loss, with 16 knockouts. He is currently the no.1 contender in the division, followed by Tete at no.2. The Villanueva-Tete WBO bantamweight eliminator will take stage in Manchester Arena, Manchester, England. |
