KENNY DEMECILLO VS GERALDO IN TSO-MUKAI UNDERCARD

PhilBoxing.com

Kenny Demecillo of the Omega Gym of Cebu is set for the biggest break in his five year pro career when he squares off against former world ranked contender Mark Anthony Geraldo in Hong Kong.

This bout will be for the WBO Oriental bantamweight belt and will be on the undercard of the highly anticipated fight between Hong Kong?s Rex Tso and Hirofumi Mukai of Japan for the WBO International and WBC Asia super flyweight belts on March 11.

The 24 year old Demecillo (12-3-2,7KO?s) hails from Lanao del Norte and is known for his toughness and uncanny recuperative powers. He is the current WBF Asia-Pacific bantamweight titlist. He owns two TKO wins against a former up and coming prospect Daryl Basadre and a split draw against former IBO world titlist Edrin Dapudong but Geraldo will be his most experienced foe to date.

The 25 year old Geraldo (33-7-3,15KO?s) remains the only boxer who has beaten the current IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas. This fight happened in 2012 in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu wherein Geraldo showcased his punch accuracy and ring smarts to eke out a majority decision win. This fight catapulted Geraldo into the world rankings.

One year after beating Ancajas, Geraldo beat Hirofumi Mukai by KO in Japan. In 2014, he beat Mexican Efrain Perez in Macao. His career seemed headed for a world title but he lost to McJoe Arroyo by unanimous decision in Puerto Rico. This is the same Arroyo who would lose his IBF world crown to Ancajas.

Geraldo, who is from Valencia City, Bukidnon, would later lose by unanimous decision to Takuma Inoue and wind up with a 1W-1L record to another Filipino, Jeson Umbal last year. This fight against Demecillo, could very well be his last chance to regain his world contender status.

Geraldo has faced better opposition, having lost in 2011 a technical decision to another world ranked Filipino Arthur Villanueva and a unanimous verdict to Thai former world champ Oleydong CP Freshmart (Kittipong Jaikajang).

Demecillo vs Geraldo and Tso vs Mukai will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center and promoted by DEF Promotions. OPSI VP Rico Navarro informed philboxing of the match-up.

In a statement OPSI President Pio Paulo Castillo said, ?We at OPSI are excited with the recent developments for our boxing program with this break for Kenny. But we aren?t taking Geraldo lightly. He?s a veteran with lots of experience.?.

Castillo also announced that Jason Canoy fighting for the WBF bantamweight championship in South Africa on March 31, and the staging of Who?s Next? 4, also in March.
