?Bad Boy? Gonzales wagers Philippine Lightweight title in a rematch against Sermona By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 26 Nov 2016 Roberto Gonzales, the Lightweight Champion of the Philippines, will risk his title and reputation against his Filipino rival who gave him his first taste of defeat in his career as professional boxer. Known as the ?Bad Boy from Batangas?, Gonzales (27-2, 17 KOs) will be facing Ryan ?The Crusher? Sermona (19-8, 12 KOs) in a rematch tonight (November 26) at the Agoncillo Batangas Sports Complex in Agoncillo Batangas. Sermona, a tough brawler, knocked out Gonzales in the 5th round on the summer of 2012 at the Puerto Galera Gym at Puerto Galera, Mindoro in what is one of 2012?s ring upset. Prior to the knockout, Gonzales was undefeated at 20-0 as a fighter. ?I set up rematch with Sermona to redeem himself from his first lost to this guy. I believe Robert is a lot matured now compared to what he was four years ago when he fought this tough Filipino brawler, Sermona. ?stated Gonzales? promoter, Elmer Anuran of Saved by the Bell Boxing (SBB). Gonzales and Sermona met the required 135 pound limit of the lightweight division at yesterday morning?s weigh-in held at the SBB Building in Paranaque. Both fighters weighed 134 pounds. Anuran also mentioned that if his ward is successful in today?s rematch against Sermona, he is planning to match Gonzales against foreign opponents in fights to be held in Manila next year to further promote his name and rating. Supporting the card will be another Batangas bred fighter, Al Sabaupan (25-2-1, 20 KOs). He will battle Jheritz Chavez (5-1-2, 3 KOs) of Cebu. The nine-fight boxing event will be covered by Solar Sports and it is scheduled to be shown tomorrow (Sunday) according to Anuran. You can reach the author at rrmaze24@aol.com.
