BKB Champion Bobby Gunn Continues Efforts To Spread Bully Awareness PhilBoxing.com Fri, 18 Nov 2016 For nearly 10 years, former gloved boxing champion and current undefeated heavyweight BKB champion of the world Bobby Gunn has worked diligently in spreading awareness of the growing bullying epidemic around the world. Utilizing social media platforms, radio interviews and public speaking engagements, Gunn has done as much as he could to discuss the long lasting implications bullying can have on kids. ?It?s disgusting how bad bullying has become all over the world,? said Gunn. ?Because of the advancements in technology, bullying is no longer contained to simply being physical; it has escalated into mental and emotional abuse as well through use of social media, text messages and more. In the past kids got picked on by the ?school bully? in the playground, and that was the extent of it. Nowadays, boys and girls of all ages suffer this worsened abuse, and sadly the end result in so many cases worldwide have been these poor children taking their lives. It is our responsibility as parents and adults to become more aware of bullying in our local communities and not turn a shoulder. It is ridiculous that this problem has grown so bad that kid think suicide seems to be the only real answer. If we all step up our efforts we can contain and hopefully eliminate this nasty epidemic.? In 2012 Gunn garnered much attention (https://memphisboxing.wordpress.com/2012/02/23/bobby-gunn-speaks-out-about-spreading-bully-awareness/#more-2041) due to his stand on bully awareness, and now 4 years later, following dozens of speaking engagements at schools throughout the country, he realizes that talking about it on Facebook and Twitter isn?t simply enough. ?People?parents, adults, educators?seem to want to just wish bullying away, and ignore it as if it doesn?t happen,? says Gunn. ?I truly believe that this problem?as bad as it was back in 2012?has even gotten more out of control. The time is now for us to make a difference. Parents and schools need to become more accountable for every case of bullying, regardless of small and insignificant it may seem to be. No one, not one single child, should ever feel so worthless that they want to end their life because of the way another kid or group of kids makes them feel. We are all God?s beautiful children and it is our duty to treat each other the way we wish to be treated.? Gunn is adamant about getting out to as many school?s as possible over the next few months to further his efforts and joins communities to take a stand against bullying. ?People don?t realize, even as a fighting champion, even I can be a victim of bullying. People?haters around the world?have done their best to demoralize me and talk badly about me, but in the end of the day, it is all coming from bullies who hate something within themselves that make them go out of their way to bring others?including myself?down. I want to show kids worldwide that they are better than the bullying, and need to see within themselves how great they really are.? Gunn is the current undefeated and unrivaled heavyweight Bare Knuckle Boxing champion of the world, holding the linear belt last held by world champion John L. Sullivan in 1889. Gunn?recognized by both the National Police Gazette and Scott Burt, President of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall-of-Fame in Belfast, NY?is the only active heavyweight world champion. Gunn has recently made Belfast, NY, home for his training camp for his upcoming world title defense, and has received unrelenting support from the community. ?Whether they are welcoming me for my training camp, or getting behind me lending their support for my vision of spreading bullying awareness, the town of Belfast has gone above and beyond for me. I?d like to give a special thank you to Scott Burt and Joe Curcio for their endless support through it all.? Gunn?s upcoming BKB world title defense coming up is to garner international exposure, and he is excited to use the media platform to reinforce his mission to combat the bullying epidemic. |
