PARAS SIGNS SCHOLARSHIP WITH CREIGHTON UNIVERSITY. READY AND EXCITED TO PLAY F OR THE BLUE JAYS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 19 Jul 2016 18 year old slam-dunking sensation Kobe Paras is in Omaha, according to his Dad and PBA legend Benjie Paras, and according to Kobe he has ?found the perfect fit with the Blue Jays? which he said has ?a great community. Kobe whose interview was shown on YouTube said he visited the gym which ?really excites me and I want to go to the gym more and more.? After what he described as ?an amazing journey? Kobe said he is going to ?a better place and a new chapter and can?t wait to be wearing the Blue Jays jersey.? He thanked the Creighton University coaches led by Greg McDermott ?for trusting me and seeing my talent.? He said that at Creighton ?it's about being one family and selfless? and recalled that Cathedral High School where he made a name for himself was like that.? We spoke to Benjie Paras who was at the Los Angeles airport waiting to board his flight for Manila after seeing off Kobe to Omaha. He told The Standard ?Kobe is now in his dorm in Creighton University. He?s very excited.? Kobe revealed that while he was forced to withdraw from UCLA after the school tweeted his visits and showed his meeting with teammates on the Bruins squad prompting his elder brother and highly successful showbiz personality Andre Paras to claim ?it was all politics.? Kobe was a consistent honor student and his SAT average score was 1750 which was higher than the national average but after being accepted, the UCLA Admissions section inexplicably indicated that incoming UCLA college students had a score of 2064 and Paras had to withdraw. He said that while he is alone in Omaha without family although his Dad Benjie was with him all the way till he chose Creighton University, Kobe said ?I can trust people who are around me. I had my ups and downs? but coach Middlebrooks has been a source of support. He conceded ?I?ve been given a 2nd chance and I thank God and the people who support me.? Kobe Paras admitted ?my dreams crashed? but coach Middlebrooks ?explored different possibilities and has been there for me since day one. It's been a crazy month. I felt really loved? even as and a lot of schools were interested in recruiting me. ABS-CBN reporter Steve Angeles quoted the coaches at Middlebrooks Academy who said ?he is eligible to compete being a consistent honor student and had a phenomenal performance? and added Creighton University will get a 6?5" wing player and have a well-conditioned athlete.? Rob Anderson reporting from Omaha said head coach McDermott announced that Kobe had signed a scholarship agreement and as a freshman will have four years eligibility with the Blue Jays. The coach noted that Kobe ?is a versatile, scoring, wing forward. He?s extremely athletic and has good natural instincts for the game of basketball.?
