Erik ?El Terrible? Morales will be training Moises Fuentes for trilogy with Nietes

Barerra out, Morales coming to Cebu if fight happens

In a twist to his career, former WBO world minimumweight champion and number one ranked light flyweight mandatory challenger Moises Fuentes has added as his manager and trainer, Erik ?El Terrible? Morales.

Philippine boxing fans know Morales very well as he schooled and took a unanimous decision win over Philippine superstar Manny Pacquiao in the first fight of their trilogy. The second and third fights were a disaster for Morales losing by KO in both fights.

Moises ?Moi? Fuentes (23-2-12ko), who is under the promotional banner of Zanfer Promotions, has dropped Marco Antonio Barerra as his manager and trainer and has signed with Erik Morales. Barerra and Morales made headlines all over the world in there unforgettable slam bang non-stop trilogy. Their fights went down as some of the greatest fights ever. It?s a well-known fact that Barerra and Morales are still to this day bitter enemies and with Fuentes jumping ship, it adds more fuel to the fire.

Fuentes came to Cebu as the WBO world minimumweight champion in March 2013 and challenged the WBO junior flyweight world champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes (37-1-21ko). In an ALA Boxing Promotions, they had World Champion vs. World Champion in an unforgettable event.

The classic fight ended as a Majority Draw as the two American judges Pat Russell and Adelaide Byrd had it each 114-114 and Atty. Danrex Tapdasan of the Philippines had it 115-113 for Nietes.

The boxing fans wanted a rematch and it happened May 2014 in Manila. The end result was a disaster for Fuentes as he lost by a 9th round KO at the hands of Nietes.

Nietes who has been world minimiumweight and light flyweight champion for 8 years and 4 months and counting, is being mentioned in the same circle as the greatest fighter in the lower weight division, hall of famer Ricardo ?Finito? Lopez.

Lopez gained worldwide attention as he fought on the undercards of Julio Cesar Chavez and the world got to experience the talents of Lopez.

Nietes needs to fight on the undercard of a major pay per view event in the United States, so the world can see this jewel from the Philippines. The talent and skills this kid possesses are Hall of Fame qualities. Mexico and Asia are where Nietes is famous, but in the United States he is not a household name in the boxing circle and the fans should experience this explosive fighter. Nietes can command millions on the major pay per view events in the United States.

Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes vs. Roman ?Chocalatito Gonzalez? A fans dream?..

Nietes has always fought the best of his division, and never ducked anyone.

In a long distance phone call with Moi Fuentes, he explained that the humidity in Manila really affected him very much. He said he will never fight again in Manila, as he stressed he wants the fight in Mexico.

He did not rule out Cebu for the venue, and the beautiful island of Cebu would experience two great warriors in Nietes and Fuentes and with Erik Morales accompanying Fuentes to Cebu, it will be bigger than when Barerra came to Cebu. The Cebu boxing fans were delighted to witness Barerra on their beautiful island as he was mobbed for photos with the legend from Mexico at the malls and restaurants.

With Morales invading Cebu, who once beat Pacquiao, the fans will come out from every barrio to get a view of Morales. The island of Cebu will once again show why they are the heart of boxing in the Philippines.
