2 Sanman boxers off to Japan

PhilBoxing.com

TWO undefeated boxers from the Sanman Promotions in General Santos City left Tuesday for Japan to become sparring partners of a former world champion.

Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Continental featherweight champion John Vincent ?Mulawin? Moralde (14 wins, 0 loss, 0 draw, 7 KOs) and featherweight Romulo ?Ruthless? Duno (8-0-0, 7 KOs) were both hired as sparring partners of former World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Hozumi Hazegawa (34-5-0) in Tokyo.

Hazegawa, 34, is preparing for his fight against 22-year old Carlos Andres Ruiz Machuca (14-1-0), current WBO Latino super featherweight title-holder, on December 11 at the Central Gym in Kobe Hyogo, Japan. Hazegawa previously won by a unanimous decision against Horacio Garcia last May 9 also at Central Gym.

Hazegawa won the vacant WBC world featherweight crown by beating Juan Carlos Burgos by a UD on November 26, 2010 at the Nihon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.

However, he was dethroned by Jhonny Gonzales by a 4th round TKO on April 8, 2011 at the World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan. Hazegawa also bowed to Kiko Martinez by a 7th round technical knockout in their 12-round title fight for the IBF world super bantamweight crown on April 23, 2014.

Hazegawa will be sparring with Moralde and Duno for more than three weeks.

?Aside from the additional income, Moralde and Duno will also experience how to train in abroad,? said Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil.

The 5-foot-7 Moralde previously won by a unanimous decision against Jerry Castroverde (6-1-0) last Sept. 26 at the Gaisano Mall Atrium in Gensan.

Moralde, 21, won his belt by a convincing UD over then-undefeated Brayd Smith (12-1-0) at the Rumours International, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia last March 14. Smith collapsed soon after the bout due to bleeding on his brain and later passed away two days after at the hospital.

Duno, on the other hand, stopped Eusebio Baluarte in the 3rd round last October 7 at the Glan Municipal Hall in Glan, Sarangani Province. Duno also stands at 5?7 and is still 20 years old. ? LITO DELOS REYES
