ASKEW HUNTS MELBOURNE WIN ON MUNDINE UNDERCARD PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Sep 2015 In a match up of two of Australia's best Darren Askew will take on Tim Hunt in Melbourne on Nov 11. DARREN ASKEW WILL GET HIS CHANCE to shine under the bright lights on November 11. The Toowoomba based southpaw has signed on to take on Melbourne's Tim Hunt over 6 rounds in a 65 kilo catchweight limit bout on the under card to Anthony Mundine's WBC welter weight silver World title defence against American Charles Hatley. The Askew vs Hunt match up will receive world wide attention with the bout to be broadcast on pay per view television in Australia and the United States. "This is a golden opportunity for me," Darren Askew said. "The chance to fight some one like Tim Hunt in front of a packed house in Melbourne and on pay per view television excites me. "I know I've got a tough fight in front of me but I know a victory will be a huge boost to my career. "A win over Tim Hunt will make the rest of the country sit up and take notice. "I walk into his backyard but that doesn't worry me. "I've done it before, I went to Melbourne and beat Matthew Lytwynenko for the Victorian title last year so I know I can go back there and beat Tim Hunt. Tim Hunt will be the toughest test of Darren Askew's career. Hunt has built a record of seventeen wins, four losses and one draw. Among his successes A PABA welterweight title and a Victorian and Australian title. This bout was put together by Brendon Smith from Smithy's TGW Promotions and Brian Amatruda. "It's been great to work with Brendon Smith to put this fight together," Brian Amatruda said. "I take pride in putting on the best talent Australia has to offer and this is a bout between two of the countries best. "Askew vs Hunt will be one of the best fights on the undercard to Anthony Mundine's World title defence. "Being a pay per view it also provides both boys with some great exposure," Amatruda said. Askew's trainer/manager Brendon Smith was thrilled when the Askew vs Hunt contract was signed sealed and delivered. "A big thanks to Brian Amatruda, it's been a pleasure working with him to make this fight a reality," Brendon Smith said. "Brian is doing great things in Australian boxing and it's great to be part of this big show. "It's a pay per view and I urge everyone to support this event after what Anthony Mundine did for us up here and coming to our last show to pay his respects to my son Brayd. "Anthony's contribution on that night was amazing and I can't thank him enough. "In turn I hope the people of Toowoomba support this show, support Anthony and of course support our local boy Darren Askew. "Darren deserves this kind of exposure and if he can secure a win over Tim Hunt it will mean big things for his career. "Darren was straight back in the gym following the Anthony Taylor fight and he will be ready for November 11. "No doubt this is a tough fight but it's a fight we believe we can win. "It's a great opportunity for Darren and I know he will make the most of it," Smith said. |
