DEFENDING CHAMPIONS SWU COBRAS WIN OVER UC WEBMASTERS TO TIE THE UV LANCERS IN SECOND PLACE By Michael Kenji Izumi PhilBoxing.com Fri, 04 Sep 2015 CEBU CITY: Defending champion Southwestern University Cobras using their usual 9-man lineup, methodically wore down the University of Cebu Webmasters to tie the University of Visayas Gren Lancers in second place with a 5-2 card behind league-leading University of San Carlos Warriors 6-1 with a 74-60 victory in the ongoing 15th season of Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Thursday. Both teams are shit miserably from the three-point area all throughout the game with SWU shooting 6 of 20 while UC shot much worse with a dismal 7 of 56 attempts from beyond the arc. Both teams struggled to take control of the game with the Cobras leading by 2 points, 15-13 at the end of the 1st period. In the 2nd period, SWU slowly gained control as they took advantage of the size mismatch by overpowering the undersized frontline of UC and took a 35-28 halftime lead and never looked back as they imposed their size and depth with a big 59-39 rebounding edge. Jesse Bautista led the Cobras with a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds while Jovanie Luz scored 14 points and added 4 assists. However, it was former UC Webmaster and now SWU Cobra Jan Michael Auditor who stole the show as he was named ?Best Player of the Game? by Viva Sports TV panelists Rico Navarro and Sandi Grumo with his season-high 14 points and 4 rebounds. Justine Dacalos was the only Webmaster player who scored in double figures with 11 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. SWU improved to 5-2 and tied the UV Green Lancers for second place in the team standings, while UC fell to 3-4, tied with the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats for the fourth spot. In the Juniors division, the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors came from a 37-29 2nd quarter deficit to beat the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars, 73-58.
