CURSON SAYS ?KING? ARTHUR VILLANUEVA LOOKS GOOD; READY FOR TITLE FIGHT AGAINST MCJOE ARROYO By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 14 Jul 2015 Villanueva. Well known strength and conditioning coach Nick Curson says undefeated Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super flyweight champion ?King? Arthur Villanueva ?looks good? and ready for his IBF title fight against Puerto Rican southpaw McJoe Arroyo at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas on Sunday, Manila Time. Curson said he ?trained Arthur so well? in Cebu City and was only able to check on the fighter yesterday when he drove to Hollywood to check him out. Villanueva has been working out at the Wild Card Gym of celebrated trainer Freddie Roach for the past two weeks and is scheduled to leave for El Paso tomorrow along with trainer Edito ?Ala? Villamor. Puerto Rico?s McJoe Arroyo, a former Olympian with a record of 16-0 with 8 knockouts told RingTV that he sees Villanueva as ?a crafty fighter while his weaknesses we will see in the fight. Every fight and fighter is different.? The fight will be telecast on ?Showtime Championship Boxing.? Arroyo enjoyed a distinguished amateur career. He won a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2007 and made the Puerto Rican Olympic team the following year. The 20 year old southpaw turned pro in 2010 but after a bright start the pace of his career sowed down and fought only seven times since 2011. RingTV said McJoe Arroyo proved he belonged on the world stage by winning two IBF eliminators in 2014. He traveled to Mexico last summer and scored an impressive 11th round TKO over former flyweight champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez and followed it up with another fine showing against Filipino Mark Anthony Geraldo to move up to No. 9 in the Ring ratings while Villanueva is ranked No. 6. Asked about his thoughts on facing Villanueva, McJoe replied ?I?m happy that I?m going to get a title shot. I?m fighting a competitive fighter and I?m preparing myself for a competitive fight. I want him to be well prepared because I will be well prepared for this fight.? Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
