As storm looms, Manny chills in his L.A. crib

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES -- As if losing to Floyd Mayweather last May 2 wasn't tough enough, Manny Pacquiao received a 1-2 punch of bad news just days after the blockbuster duel in the Las Vegas desert.

According to multiple reports, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) might impose sanctions on the 8-division champ for his failure to disclose a shoulder injury in the medical questionaire which was submitted before the May 1 weigh-in.

And then the big kahuna -- a lawsuit filed by a couple of disgruntled fans in Nevada seeking $5 million in damages. The lawsuit alleges that Pacquiao violated the Nevada Deceptive Trade Practices Act by failing to publicly disclose his injured shoulder.

On top of the ugly heap is the MRI result which revealed a signifcantly torn rotator cuff, one that was subsequently repaired before this article saw print. The procedure could sideline the People's Champ from 9-to-12 months, according to renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache who will surgically repair Pacquiao's ailing limb.

In Manny Pacquiao's charmed life, these are clearly not his salad days.

But Manny has faced tougher battles before. And won.

So instead of sulking and cursing, he faced the Philippine media yesterday at his home along Plymouth Boulevard here in Los Angeles. The 36-year old sensation, now even richer beyond his wildest dreams after a histric fight in which he could be paid in excess of $100 million, said he will be a keen observer as the NSAC does its due diligence and conduct an investigation. He will also vigorously defend himself against any lawsuits and he is confident that his legal team can secure a favorable outcome.

In the meantime, Pacquiao just wanted to chill out.

And that's exactly what he did as soon after he was finished with all the interivews.

Pacquiao spent most of the afternoon playing darts in his garage where members of Team Pacquiao and their friends hung out. They played, sang, took pictures, and basked in the reflected glow of Manny's greatness.

When I left the champion's den at around 9:20 pm the crowd was swelling both inside the mansion and outside where the cold night air was getting crisp.

Just another day of fun in the beautiful life of Manny Pacquiao.

SOLID MEDIA GROUP.. Among the Pinoy mediamen who attended Pacquiao's press conference included Nick Giongco of The Manila Bulletin and Abac Cordero of Philippine Star, both pillars of thier respective sports sections.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer came in full force, a five-man contingent headed by news editor Jun Engracia, PDI also dispatched scribes Roy Luarca, Mark Giongco, assistant sports editor Francis Ochoa and photographer Rhem Zamora.

Spin.ph sent three reps --- Jerome Ascano and Gerry Ramos, and the very colorful Snow Badua. Virgie Romano was the lone wolf for Abante, the only Rose among the thorns in the print and digital Pinoy media who covered Pacquiao-.Mayweather showdown.

The father and son tandem of Eddie and Wendell Rupert Alinea, who cover Pacquiao like a blanket, were there too. Eddie whips juicy updates from the Pacquiao camp on a daily basis while Wendell chronicles through his the magic of photos.

It was a pleasure to be around these guys and I look forward to seeing them again in the next Pacquiao tiff.

P.S. This author thanks veteran newsman Aquiles Zonio, PIO for congressman Manny for his assistance during my coverage of the latest Pacquiao saga..Zonio gave me unfettered access to the People's Champ in Los Angeles and in Las Vegas.

Mabuhay ka, sir Aqui!!!

It was also a delight to meet the smart and groovy Dino Maragay of PhilStar.com who also serves as editor at NBA.com Philippines.

Manny meets with members of the Filipino print and digital media. The author drooling over PacMan's Ferrari which sat idly in the driveway of the champ's massive Los Angeles home.
