Fernando Montiel dominates Pinoy Jun Doliguez in Mexico

PhilBoxing.com

Former three division world champion Fernando ?Kochulito? Montiel scored a rousing Unanimous Victory against Rogelio ?Jun? Doliguez of the Philippines Saturday night in Tijuana, Mexico.

Montiel, 36, landed a huge right counter on the attacking Doliguez in the 1st round of the fight which sent Doliguez spinning and down to the canvas. Doliguez got up from that knockdown but was sent down again by a combination from the veteran and older Montiel in the same round.

Doliguez pressed the action in the early goings of the second but Montiel landed a three-punch-combo that all found its mark on the Filipino?s head and he was down again.

But there is no quit in the heart of the Pinoy warrior, he recouped and managed to put up a valiant but losing fight against the former champion and hometown hero. A deduction for a low blow in the 7th round did not help his cause and buried him deep in the score cards.

It was a dominating victory for Montiel who was trying to position himself for a title shot in the talented featherweight division. This is his eight straight victory after his last defeat in 2011 to Victor Terrazas. His other recent loss was a brutal KO in the hands of the Philippines? Nonito Donaire Jr. in February of the same year. His record now stands at 54 wins (39 KOs) and 4 losses and 2 draws.

Doliguez, 23, out of Sarangani and Batangas provinces in the Philippines absorbed his third defeat in the last two years and his second in Mexico.

His other two defeats are from Gabriel Pina in April of last year which he later avenged a month after in in Tijuana and his other loss was from fellow Filipino Dennis Tubieron which was ruled a Technical Majority Decision after an accidental clashing of heads at the Mandaluyong Gym in Manila in September of last year. His record stands at 19 wins (14 KO) against 3 defeats and 2 draws.

Doliguez who needed a knockout to win after suffering those early knockdowns kept pressing until the final bell of their 10 round bout but was countered brilliantly by the former champion.

The scores from all three judges from ringside at the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Guti?rrez Moreno in Tijuana were an identical 99-88 for Montiel.
