FREE PACMAN-LARIOS TICKETS UP FOR GRABS JUNE 5 TO 25

By Virgi T. Romano

30 May 2006

Manny Pacquiao Promotions Inc. (MPPI), promoters of the coming Manny Pacquiao versus Oscar Larios showdown , thru its media partners, ABS-CBN, yesterday unveiled the master plan on how MPPI will release the P2.5 million 'gifts' of general admission tickets as promised earlier by the Filipino ring icon.

Pacquiao is set to fight Larios for the WBC Super-featherweight crown on Sunday, July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum and had earlier said he wanted to donate the boxing tickets as a symbolic offering to his countrymen on his historic fight in the Philippines.

Officials of MPPI and ABS-CBN eventually decided that for ticket control, stubs can be obtained through texting on TV programs of Channel 2 and in provincial RNG and Manila radio programs from June 5 to June 25, 2006.

For television viewers, texters have to wait for the Mano-A-Mano logo to appear in selected shows daily and text right away the name of the program and date when they see it.

For radio listeners, they have to wait for the bell stinger and answer the announcers' question right away by text.

Each text message costs P2.50 and is open to Smart, Talk N' Text and Addict Mobile.

Winners are to be notified by representatives of ABS-CBN Interactive Office.

Adding to the excitement of the card is the appearance of Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, who battles Alejandro Felix Montiel in one of three 10-rounders featuring two other Mexicans like Larios.

A hero of Candijay, Bohol, Bautista recently scored a sensational three-round demolition job Sunday over Nicaragua's Roberto Bonilla in Los Angeles, California.

The other Mexicans are Tomas Rojas, who is pitted against Gerry Penalosa and Adrian Valdez versus Jimrex Jaca.

The rest of the card, involving local boxers, will have super bantam Glenn Porras of Mlang, North Cotabato against Jerope Mercado of Cebu City and bantam Ernel Fontanilla (Gensan) versus Ariel Delgado(Manila) in eight rounds.

In a pair of six-rounders, featherweight roel Laguna goes up against Dominador Agrabio and Richie Mepranum against Efren Huesca.

ABS-CBN, the largest and only multi-media entertainment conglomerate in the Philippines, will broadcast the fight live around the world. It can be viewed also through The Filipino Channel (TFC), which reaches North America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Guam, Japan and other parts of Asia.

Meanwhile, Larios, who hails from Mexico has chosen former Japanese world champion Hozumi Hasegawa as one of his sparmates at the Teiken gym in Tokyo early next month in preparation for his coming showdown against the Filipino world champion.

Hasegawa is currently preparing for the third defense of his WBC bantam title against Mexico's Genaro 'Poblanito' Garcia set on July 15 at Korakuen gym, mecca of Japanese boxing.

Larios said he will be using a secret weapon on his training, wearing special bracelets with sand weights weighing about 500 grams in each of his wrists to keep his guard high and enable him to use his longer reach to his advantage.

Reports from Los Angeles said Larios' manager, Rafael Mendoza, has formed a strategic relationship with Oscar dela Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions in a historic tieup which initially has given Larios a crack at the world crown.

"I have not seen for a long time a promoter with the enthusiasm, professionalism and integrity like Golden Boy,' said Mendoza, who has also guided the careers of former world champions Pipino Cuevas, Humberto 'Chiquita' Gonzales, Chango Carmona and Daniel Zaragosa.
