IT’S a go. Batangas pride and rising boxing gem JR ‘‘Star Boy’’ Magboo and Vergel Puton dubbed as Strongman will mix it up tonight for the International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific supert bantamweight crown at the Agoncillo Sports Center in Agoncillo, Batangas.

Magboo, one of the rising stars of Touch Gloves Boxing Gym and Wild card bet Puton of Las Piñas City passed the weigh-in yesterday in flying colors. Witnessed by representatives from the Games and Amusements Board and boxing personalities including Saved by the Bell Promotion president Elmer Anuran and executive Danny Anuran, the 25-year-old Magboo tipped the scales at 121 lbs, while Puton weighed 122 pounds.

Also making the grades were Ben Mculloch and Yodkhunsuk who dispute the PABA super middleweight crown.

‘‘I am ready to rumble,’’ said Magboo, a native of Baco, Oriental Mindoro.
‘‘I would like to thank Boss Elmer for this opportunity. I am doing this for my family.’’

Elmer Anuran, Magboo’s handler and president of Saved by the Bell Promotions, said his ward will have a stern test against highly-rated Virgil ‘‘Strongman’’ Puton
‘‘This is going to be an action-packed bout. Both fighters are tested and willing to mix it up,’’ noted the youthful Anuran, who is known for pitting his fighters against battle-tested foes.

Expected to watch the slugfest is well-loved former world champion and promoter Gerry Peñalosa. Also coming is Australian matchmaker Robert Hill and a host of exciting personalities.

Magboo, younger brother of fast-rising Nino, is still unbeaten in 17 bouts. He sports a record of 15-0-2, including seven knockouts.  Puton is no pushover with
a mark of 14-3-0, including seven knockouts.

Magboo last fought and beat Angelito Merin last May at the Pili Capitol Convention Center in Camarines Sur.

He wrested the Philippine title by knocking out Jhunriel Ramonal in the 8h round last March.
