NBA -- Golden State Warriors Cruise Past Boston Celtics, 101 - 83

Oracle Arena, Oakland, Calif -- The Boston Celtics (14-15) certainly didn't play its best basketball Saturday, but even if it did, it would have been difficult to overcome this Golden State Warriors team.

The Warriors (21-10) put on a shooting clinic from everywhere on the floor and held onto a double digit lead for nearly the entire contest. Golden State Warriors showcased that it can scorch the nets with the best of them, and that's why it continues to prove that it is a team to be reckoned with.

Golden State won their third straight game with a 101-83 victory over the veteran Celtics on Saturday night at Oracle Arena. David Lee (20 points, 6 rebounds) and Stephen Curry (22 points, 9 assists) led the way for the Warriors, and Harrison Barnes got it going early with 10 of his 15 points in the first quarter. The Warriors shot 50.7 percent from the field and were 12 of 19 from behind the stripe, while Boston struggled shooting only 31 for 86 (36 percent) from the field.

"The bottom line is it's been a great year for us," Golden State Warriors Coach Mark Jackson said. "2012 has been real good to us. We will put it behind us and now look forward to doing great things in 2013."

Paul Pierce contributed with 13 points on a poor shooting night from the Celtics star (4 of 20) while Jason Terry scored 13 points on 6 for 19 shooting who was smothered by the Warriors back court due to Rajon Rondo's absence. The Celtics starting point guard, Rondo, was scratched from the line up as he was nursing a bruised right thigh and hip he obtained from the Clippers game last Thursday at the Staples Center. Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Rondo will be a game time decision at the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.

Kevin Garnett was a non factor on tonight's game scoring only 6 points and 3 rebounds in 23 minutes of play. Courtney Lee finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds as the starting point guard.

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, during the post game interview, said, "We had 1,000 open shots tonight. A lot of them were jump shots. And at some point, I thought, you've got to penetrate and take it to the basket. They don't have a lot of shot blocking, and we didn't do that. But it's hard to tell a shooter not to shoot an open shot. So, as a coach, you're kind of stuck. You let them keep taking them and you hope that some go in, and they didn't."

The young Warriors held their opponents to less than 40 percent shooting in three of their last 5 games, and they will look to to keep that streak intact on Wednesday when they host the red hot Los Angeles Clippers (24-6) at Oracle Arena. (JSM)
