NBA -- Kings snap 9-game losing streak against Spurs

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Sacramento Kings have a bad history of losing to the San Antonio Spurs, who have won nine straight over them and 21 of their 22 past meetings.

But on Saturday night at the Sleep Train Arena, the Kings snapped that ugly streak and beat the defending champions, 94-91.

Hounded by foul troubles and wounded by an errant Spurs elbow, DeMarcus Cousins ignored both inconveniences and powered the Kings offense with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Darren Collison added 19 and five assists while Rudy Gay chipped in 18 and six dimes.

Sacramento won despite making only 37 of 86 field goals and missing all 12 of their 3-point attempts. The Kings also had only 19 assists against the Spurs' 24, but they out rebounded San Antonio, 42-38, and committed only nine against the Spurs' 14 turnovers.

When the Spurs took the lead, 88-87, with just 1:47 remaining in the game, it appeared that their championship poise would carry the day against the young Kings. But the aging veteran Spurs didn't have the legs to get it done in the end.

"We hung in there, we just ran out of juice a little bit. A couple of guys were probably a little tired at the end of the road trip, but everyone goes through that. We had a good chance to win this thing but just didn't," San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich told ESPN as his team was winding up a four-game road trip.

Manu Ginobili had 21 to lead the Spurs while Tim Duncan had 15 and eight rebounds. Tony Parker finished with only 11 and six assists as the Spurs converted only 34 of their 80 field goals.

The Kings' triumph improved their record to 6-4 while the Spurs dropped to 5-4. (JSM)
