Pacquiao, Barrera and Morales Should Fight in One Card in September

PhilBoxing.com
Sun, 26 Feb 2006

As what I've told you in my previous column “Graceful Exit for this Hogwash Rubber Match”, it seems the Manny Pacquaio-Erik Morales trilogy will go to the trashcan for good.

Tom Thompson e-mailed me the other day and informed me about the scoop he got from Pacman’s promoter Gary Shaw.

Probably you will ask me, who the hell is Tom Thompson? Well, baby. He is the hotshot boxing writer of TigerBoxing.com, a U.S based outfit. While Filipinos around the world bashed me for my being SOB in rooting for Morales last January, Thomson was the dude who was swarmed (much bigger in proportion than the mudslide that engulfed a town in Leyte, Philippines recently) with grateful emails from the flattered Filipino nation.

He wrote then: “Pacquiao was the superman super featherweight.” “There is nothing like Manny Pacquaio in all professional sports.” He added: Here in America, you could combine Lance Armstrong, Peyton Manning, LeBron James, Tom Cruise, Bruce Springsteen and 50 cent into one person and you still wouldn’t have what the Philippines have in their no.1, all–time superstar Manny Pacquiao. “Manny is their Super Bowl, World Series, Final Four and World Cup. He’s that big –all 130-Ib of him.”

Tom, here’s for you from my favorite singer Joe Cocker: “You are so Beautiful”. Before I forgot, Mr. Thompson told me in relation to my article last week “Ultimate Fight for Greed?” of what Mr. Shaw had told him:

“I will mention the uproar in the Philippines concerning 132 lbs in my column which will be published tomorrow. But I will give you the scoop first. I just talked to Gary Shaw and he
said Team Pacquiao has not and will not agree to 132 lbs. If Pacman fights Morales in September it will be at 130 lbs.”

Because of this we would rather see on September the Manny Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera II fight. On this fight, I will bet for Pacman as I rooted for him in his first fight against the Baby-Faced Assassin. Probably, I will recoup all my financial loses when I bet for El Terrible. Probably, I will go to Las Vegas, Nevada to be at ringside so I can cover thoroughly the war, at the same time I can wear the coat & tie my grandpa bequeathed to me. He used it in World War II when he was mapping with his guerillas on how to ambush and annihilate the hated Japanese forces who occupied our country. Hopefully, the magic of that stuff will further buttress my compatriot.

Aside from the 1000 lbs. bomb left hand wrapped with the Cleto-Reyes glove, another firepower of Pacman for him to bury Barrera on the ring where they will fight, will be that P1 Million advertisement patch of Motolite Battery sewed on his short pants. It is located at the upper part of his ass. Freddie Roach told me (ahem!), it was the one responsible in chopping down Erik Morales. It was no ordinary battery. It was battery intended for a Sherman Tank!

If Erik and Bob Arum will insist on the 132 lbs., here’s a compromise that will make everybody happy. Put Pacman and Barrera in the main event. And put Erik on the undercard. But still, he will fight Pacquaio so he will have his revenge. But it will not be Manny. It will be Bobby. Yes, Virginia, Bobby Pacquiao, the younger brother of Pacman who is also a boxer - a second rate though. They can fight even at 135 Ibs. Morales can still avenge his first TKO, while Bobby can erase the controversial decision in his favor when he fought a guy named Famoso late last year. This is in case he wins against the already shot El Terrible.

Bring it on!

hi toto,
you hit it right on the jaw, man! ....the triumvirate of arum, finkel and hbo bigwigs have done it again!...good to hear that the original scumbug, the wily murad and the semi retired rod nazario are not on the show...if not, kawawa lang si manny....yeah, you're right, GREED, like the insatiable lust of the little lady and his relatives and minions by the mansion on the pasig river, is really dangerous...maybe the most logical fight next for manny is barrera since we can't deduce any further the merits of erik and manny's first two fights....the aztec warrior is past his prime, nothing more to show. period....barrera can still clear his name on a second fight, while marquez and larios are on the verge of retirements...fighting has beens is same as cruelty to animals....in the meantime....abangan ang susunod na kabanata!

as far as i'm concerned, eric morales is history! MP has nothing to prove against morales anymore! alright, the score is tied at 1-1 but man, MP's win vs morales is a total annihilation of the man (morales). morales has been destroyed by MP period. MP has shown us that he's the "MAN" in that division. a third fight, for many of us, would not be as exciting as the first & second fights.manny should fight other fighters.

even MAB whom he demolished previously is no longer as exciting but given that he is a champion and won his last 3 (or 4?) fights plus the fact that he already have gained back his confidence following those wins plus he might have already forgotten how strong MP's punches are (he surrendered, didn't he) and he wants to remember, gives him the edge against other fighters who should have the chance to fight MP. it would generate excitement as the pacquiao vs morales II fight and would even offer a big paycheck for manny considering that MAB has a belt on his waist. if MP wins, he could flatly lay claim to the best pound for pound fighter when some bodies still ranks MAB (how stupid- he destroyed & shamed MAB don't you fools forget that BWA-HA-HA!) ahead of MP. MORALES & PACQUIAO 3? HO-HUM! but PACQUIAO & BARERRA 2? I SAY, BRING IT ON, MAN!!!!!LONG LIVE THE PACMAN! LONG LIVE THE FILIPINOS!

You are ABSOLUTELY right that these 2 greedy crocodiles are just after “Money” without considering what was in the contract.

The Pacman should really stick with his decision to fight at 130 lbs, no less no more.
Please voice-out louder your opinion of not giving a chance for Morales camp to fight in the 132 pounds.

Long live your column and keep up the good work in writing about boxing as your analysis is so realistic about the future of our hero “
The Pacman”.

Good day again sir!

Again, thanks for another good read! Definitely, Team Pacquiao should be gunning for Barrera, and I agree with you 100% on this.

Anyway, it seems that the tide has changed its course; Manny's handlers just told media men that they will back Manny up on whatever decision he makes. That, is, no more 132 lbs shit fight against Morales! Now that is a relief!

Manny was quoted as saying that if "Morales doesn’t agree at fighting me at 130 lbs, then I won't bother fighting him again."

Finkel then backed Manny statement up, saying that "whatever Manny wants, we will go for it."

Such a wise move, because Arum's plan only favors his own fighter. But I personally think that at 132, Manny will still gonna kick Morales's ass back to Tijuana!

I would like to thank you for having my reaction appear with your article, and I saw more positive feedbacks from your audience, which only reflects the fact that you are an entertaining sports columnist. Keep up the good work sir! Your language and writing antics rock!

God bless!

Another good one. I hope Pacman will stick to his decision not to fight at 132 lbs. Hey condolence to the families of those affected by the mudslides in Leyte.

I just read your lines on the net, puso ng baat pinoy at kalusugan n pacman ang priority natin. Aside from fame land money, we all wanted a clean fight . win or lose. Basta walang daya. Hope there is chance to hear the protest of Pacman not to fight on the 132 lbs.

Pacman said yesterday while commenting on the Villoria- Aguirre fight that : He likes to fight at 130lbs. But at 132 lbs will give too much advantage to Erik Morales. It’s the fact that Pacman is not a true lightweight.

Just read your commentary. Mataas ang possibility for the trilogy. In “ The Ultimate Fight for Greed” I agreed to your observation. Dapat walang rubber rematch sa 132 lbs. It should be on the 13o lbs as stipulated on the original contract.
