"KING OF THE RING 2" @ PAGCOR AIRPORT CASINO FILIPINO THIS SATURDAY IN PARA?AQUE

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

A new world class "King of the Ring" boxing card will be back on stage featuring three 12-round title fights for the entertainment of Manila boxing fans.

After the successful first installment of "King of the Ring" last December featuring "Mr. Shallow" Donnie Mabao defeating former world champion Florante Condes, a new line-up of action fighters will heat up the ring of the Airport Casino Filipino in Para?aque this Saturday (Feb 16), and no boxing fan in Manila should miss the thrilling action.

In the main event, "King of the Ring 2" will feature world rated Randy Petalcorin (19-1, 14KO's) of Davao risking his two world rankings and WBA Pan-Asian Boxing Association Jr. Flyweight title in a 12-round festival of knuckle against local Para?aque?o Rene Patilano (7-1-1, 3KO's).

Randy Petalcorin, with 20 professional combats, doubles Patilano's experience. But the 21-year-old Patilano, known for his fighting spirit, is focused on taking Petalcorin's two world rankings.

The issue of Petalcorin's experience is dismissed by some of Patilano's fans with a tough counter-punching reasoning of their own:

"If unheralded journeyman Michael Rodriguez (13-34-1, 3KO's), a boxer with absolutely no punching power on his fists was just about to knockout Petalcorin in the eight round of their very controversial showdown in Cebu, why Patilano could not finish the job? Plus, why Petalcorin opted to roll on the canvas instead of standing up as a warrior to continue fighting Michael? Did Petalcorin stayed on the canvas for that many minutes because of pain from some illegal punch? Or was it because of lack of fighting spirit?"

The Petalcorin-Patilano for the WBA Pan-Pacific Boxing Association title fight is the perfect chance for boxing fans in Manila to get answers the spiny questions at a moment when Petalcorin wants to reaffirm his world class while Patilano, decent coming up fighter with an acceptable record, wants a foothold in the world rankings.

Indeed, Patilano's sole defeat in nine professional fights was a razor thin split decision lost to JR Estremos at the Sofitel Plaza Hotel last July in Manila, a fight that could have gone either way.

Randy Petalcorin, currently ranked as WBA #4 and WBO # 8 Jr. Flyweight, is managed by the well-known Australian man of boxing Peter Maniatis of Albert Park, Victoria.

Regardless of the fact that all of Randy Petalcorin's wins have been against second and third class opposition as Rodriguez and others, if Petalcorin emerges victorious over Patilano, his chances of challenging the WBA or the WBO Jr. Flyweight world champion would increase notably.

A setback would be disastrous.

The reigning WBA super champion in this weight class is sensational 25-year-old knockout artist Rom?n "El Chocolatito" Gonz?lez (34-0, 28KO's) of Nicaragua, widely recognized as the #1 Jr. Flyweight fighter in the planet.

However, in the coming months Rom?n "El Chocolatito" Gonz?lez will fight in a unification fight against undefeated WBA "regular champion" Kazuto Ioka (11-0, 7KO's) of Japan. The date date and place of the Gonz?lez-Ioka WBA unification fight will be decided in a purse bidding on Monday February 18 at the WBA head office in Panama City, Panama, a process to be attended by this Philboxing writer.

Meanwhile, the WBO Jr. Flyweight king is filipino Donnie "Ahas" Nietes (31-1-3, 17KO's), a crafty and experienced 2-division world champion scheduled to defend his crown against WBO Minimumweight (105 lbs) world champion Mois?s "Moi" Fuentes (11-1, 8KO's) of M?xico in an exciting ALA Promotions mega card on March 2 at the plush Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu, Philippines.

Question: If world rated Randy Petalcorin scores a win on Saturday, would he ever be considered a real threat to the reigns of accomplished 108-pound kings Roman Gonz?lez, Kazuto Ioka or Donnie Nietes?

Answers will be provided in the ring of PAGCOR Airport Casino Filipino this Saturday night.

EXCITING "KING OF THE RING 2" CO-MAIN EVENT: SUCO VS TUPAS FOR WBC ASIAN TITLE

The co-main event is a 12-rounder rumble between 26-year-old Filipino Ranel Suco (14-7-2, 6KO's) of Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur, squaring off underdog Prell Tupas (8-18-4, 1KO) for the vacant interim WBC Asian featherweight title.

In his last outing, the tough Ranel Suco lost a 12-round decision to fearsome WBC Muay World Champion Jomthong Chuwatana in Kunming, China.

Chuwatana is one of the most destructive muay thai warriors in the planet, widely regarded as one of the best in the ancient thai art of fighting. Ranel Suco going all the distance toe-to-toe with the thai legend says volumes of his big heart and potential.

But Prell "Joker" Tupas, 28, is no joke. He gets into this serious battle with Suco from a hard-fought split decision victory over Junard Postrano last December in Fort Bonifacio Manila.

Yes, Suco's resume looks with better. But Tupas is a 30 fights veteran willing to score the valuable nod that would propel his fight career towards better challenges and purses.

MORE: ROAD WARRIOR ROILO GOLEZ BACK IN ACTION

In a clash of boxing survival, road warrior Roilo Golez (15-10, 6KO's) of Compostella Valley battles 22-year-old Wilber Andogan (9-11, 3KO's) of Besao, Mountain Province, for the interim WBC Asian minimumweight title.

The knockout victory of Roilo "The Phoenix" Golez over world rated WBC Asian champion Thongthailek Sor Tanapinyo of Thailand was one of the biggest upsets in Asian boxing in 2011 (a fight in Thailand attended by Philboxing).

Regardless of his biggest win over Sor Tanapinyo, Golez's boxing record, might not look that impressive. But the 25-year-old 105-pounder has consistently flown behind enemy lines to lands far as Thailand and Mexico to get in the square ring against some of the most fearsome flyweight fighters in the planet.

Indeed, Golez's has battled dangerous huge enemies as undefeated thai Wanheng Menayothin (26-0, 8KO's), Mexican former world champion Sammy Gutty, unbeaten thailander former muay thai standout Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym (20-0-1, 8KO's) and Mexican Edgar Sosa, one the world's best flyweights, being Golez a 105-pounder.

Sure, "The Phoenex" Golez did not defeat those big guns, but he learned valuable fighting lessons the hard way, lessons that could prove valuable in a clash against an lesser experienced opponent as Andogan.

Will "The Phoenix" Roilo Golez, score a decisive win that would catapult him to bigger new challenges?

Or the guts and warrior's heart of the 22-year-old Andogan would propel him to become the new WBC interim Asian champ?

Fight fans will find out this coming Saturday in "King of The Ring 2" @ PAGCOR Airport Casino Filipino in Para?aque. Manila.

Plus, a 4-rounder bantamweight fight that could delight the lucky fight fans in attendance is this one:

Gensan's tough-as-nails Aroel "Baby Lion" Romasasa (11-4, 6KO's) will collide with brave warrior Jomar Tumbaga of Candon, Ilocos Sur Province.

Yes, "Baby Lion" Romasasa hasn't looked too good in his last four fights, a fact that makes this clash the perfect chance for Tumbaga to score his first victory in professional boxing.

Will Tumbaga take full advange of Romasasa's fighting slump to score his first win... or will the "Baby Lion" roar back again?

The promoter of "King of the Ring 2" is WBC Asian promoter of the year Brico Santig of Highland Boxing of Baguio.
