About Marvin Sonsona

Marvin “Marvelous” Sonsona (born May 12, 1990, in General Santos City, South Cotabato) is a Filipino southpaw who made history as one of the youngest world champions from the Philippines. In September 2009, at just 19 years old, he captured the WBO super flyweight title by defeating José López, though he lost the belt on the scales in his first defense. Sonsona later moved up in weight and, in 2014, scored a notable victory over former champion Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. to claim the WBO International featherweight title. Known for his speed and explosive style, Sonsona’s career was marked by flashes of brilliance alongside long periods of inactivity. He retired with a professional record of 21 wins (15 KOs), 1 loss, and 1 draw, remembered as a prodigy whose talent briefly lit up the lighter divisions.
